Optical modules work on the switch usually need to read the internal information of the module to understand its working status, such as module connectivity and real-time collection of light, temperature, etc., through the identification of the module information can be detected by the module and the switch's coding compatibility; then how to view the working status of the optical module in the process of use as well as the internal information?
      The following is an example of accessing an Avaya VSP-8284XSQ switch with a Motek SFP-10G-BIDI optical module to show you the specific operation of reading the accessed optical module information on an AVAYA switch.

Schematic diagram of the optical module accessing the switch

Figure 1 Schematic diagram of the optical module accessing the switch

1. Optical module status
      Execute the command
"show interfaces gigabitEthernet name port number " to view the interface information;
      The information output under this command contains interface rate, duplex mode, module type, module link status (status for UP is a prerequisite for the work of the optical module).
      Explanation: port number is the slot number and interface number where the module is located, you can execute the command "show interface gigabitEthernet state" to view or determine the interface number according to the switch panel; if you don't know the interface slot number and interface number, you can not enter them. At this time, the information of all interfaces will be output.

2. Switch identification of module
      Execute the command
"show pluggable-optical-modules detail port number" to view the identification information and digital diagnosis of optical modules on the interface.
The output content under this command has two parts of information, one part is module identification information, including module type, model, vendor, serial number, wavelength, etc. Vendor is displayed as Avaya, indicating that the module is an Avaya certified module; the other part of the information includes real-time data diagnosis and threshold range, and also provides the threshold status information, with the status of "Normal" indicating that the DDM module has been certified by Avaya. Normal" indicates that the DDM data is normal, you can pay attention to this status to understand whether the working status of the optical module on the equipment at both ends is normal.
