MIKROTIK is a network equipment manufacturer in Latvia, which develops and sells products such as wired and wireless network routers, network switches, and wireless access points. The company was established in 1996, in 2019 with 280 employees and is said to be the 20th largest company in Latvia. This brand product currently has many users in China, and there are many merchantsselling its products on Taobao.
      To learn more about MIKROTIK products, we purchased a MIKROTIK CRS309-1G-8S switch and conducted a simple disassembly analysis. Without further ado, please refer to the figure above:

      The MIKROTIK CRS309-1G-8S switch comes with an external power supply and installation accessories. Have you noticed the huge heat sink?

      After removing the switch, you can clearly see the huge heat sink which on the back of the switch, as well as the external power socket.

      The front panel has 8 10-Gigabit SFP interfaces, and this switch adopts a non fan design, this allows high-end users to use this machine on their desks or homes, connect to their high-performance workstations or game consoles, and build a 10G network without being disturbed by noise of fans.

      Open the switch and you can see that the heat sink is connected to the main switch chip through two heat pipes, which avoids the need for an active fan to dissipate heat.

      Remove the heat sink and it can be seen that the switch is using MARVELL's Aldrin 98DX8208 switching chip. According to the data manual, the power consumption of this switching chip should be greater than 12W.
