Introduction To The CISCO SFP-10/25G-CSR-S Module

        The 10G network adheres to the IEEE 802.3 specification (10GBASE-SR), which stipulates that 10G-SR modules can transmit up to 300m over OM3 fiber and 400m over OM4 fiber. Network builders typically deploy devices at both ends of the fiber based on these maximum distances. However, 25G-SR modules only support a transmission distance of up to 70m (OM3) / 100m (OM4), making direct upgrades from some 10G networks to 25G networks using 25G-SR modules unfeasible.
        To address this issue, CISCO has launched the SFP-10/25G-CSR-S optical module, which supports transmission distances of 300m (OM3) / 400m (OM4) while featuring dual-rate capability, enabling interconnection with both 25GBASE-SR and 10GBASE-SR optical modules.

        When interconnecting with 25G modules, RS-FEC (Forward Error Correction) must be enabled on the 25G ports. The following table lists the FEC types supported by the SFP-10/25G-CSR-S module:

        Other host vendors have also launched optical modules with equivalent performance, including HP-ARUBA (Model: JL485A), H3C (Model: SFP-25G-CSR-MM850), and Extreme (Model: 10503). These 25G-CSR/25G-eSR/25G-ESR modules also support transmission distances of up to 300m (OM3) / 400m (OM4).
