Optical modules are widely used in switches, network interface cards (NICs), routers, and other communication devices. During use, reading optical module information helps understand its real-time operating status, enabling faster troubleshooting of link abnormalities.
T        he following uses the Moduletek SFP-10G-LR module connected to a Huawei S6700 switch as an example to introduce how to read information of the connected optical module on a Huawei switch.
Schematic diagram of the optical module accessing the switch

1. Check Optical Module Interface Status
Execute the command display interface interface-type interface-number to view detailed interface information (including the optical module status):
The output of this command includes interface rate, module type, module link state (a UP state is a prerequisite for the optical module to work normally), and statistical data—all of which are useful for troubleshooting.
Note:  interface-type interface-number refers to the interface type and number where the optical module is installed. You can first execute display interface brief to view the brief status of all interfaces, then confirm the specific interface number according to the switch panel.  If the interface type and number are unknown, you can omit them (i.e., execute display interface directly), and the device will output information of all interfaces.
2. View Module Identification and DDM Monitoring Data
Execute the command display transceiver interface interface-type interface-number verbose to view comprehensive information of the optical module on the target interface:
The output information is divided into two categories:
    • Optical Module Identification Information: Including module type, wavelength, transmission distance, serial number, and vendor name. This data is derived from the encoded information pre-written in the module.
    • DDM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) Data: Covers real-time diagnostic metrics and their threshold ranges, such as temperature, supply voltage, transmit optical power, and receive optical power. Monitoring these key parameters helps verify whether the optical module operates normally on both connected devices.
